All about tagging people on Social media

So, what is tagging and how can this help you?  It can be very valuable to tag people on Instagram, there are times you should do this and times you should not.

This is exactly “Why” I wanted to give you updated information to help you while you’re using Instagram. So let’s start with the HOW, How do you tag someone?

Tagging someone on Instagram is fairly simple.  Start with adding a new post, just before you share it hit the “Tag People” button.  Then select the people you want to tag and its simple that is it!

Now, you may be wondering “Why’ you should tag someone in your image?  This is a normal question and below you will find the answers to your questions.

Why

1.       Possibly Increase your following through reposting

Tagging those “Featured” accounts that are related to your business can increase your chance of your posts being reposted/re-shared.  The KEY factor in tagging accounts is to ONLY tag accounts that are related to your image.  This means if your image has an item in it tag that company (tag the photographer, tag the hair/makeup artist, model, furniture, products used).

3.       Tagging people on Instagram is a fast and easy way to help you boost your engagement.  Every time you tag one of your followers, they receive a notification that will inform them of your post. With the direct connection in their notification box, followers will have more chances to interact with your post. 

You should carefully as your tagging should have a logical reason, otherwise this is pointless.

4.       Get Exposure

When you tag a user in a post, that specific piece of content will appear in the “Photos of you” section on their profile.  This means your content will be discoverable on someone else’s profile.

Instagram, gives you many tools that can get your post in the spotlight of new followers.  Remember, to try them all and not only rely on tagging. Make sure the posts you’re tagging users in are relevant to them and that this is not done too often.

5.       Build Community

Having people tagged in your posts will help your followers and brand to know who your other customers or partnering business are.  This is helpful to allow your followers feel like they are a part of a community of people.  Doing this will allow your community to feel like they are a part of a bigger picture and not a company that is “All about themselves”


The Do’s and Don’ts

o   When you want to give credit to those who are a part of creating the image.

o   When you are giving thanks to partners and affiliates

o   When Announce contest winners

o   When you are giving credit for testimonials

o   When you are giving thanks for something someone did

o   When you are answering a question someone asked you

o   When the person is asking you for credit or to share their name.

 

When you should NOT tag a Person in your post

 

o   Do not just tag because

o   Do not tag someone who is NOT relevant to your post

o   Do not tag a random person you don’t know

o   Do not tag because you like someone else’s feed

o   Only tag Feature accounts if YOU ARE POSITIVE it’s a feature account

 

When in doubt ask, if you are not sure who or if you can tag someone reach out to them and ask them if they are ok with you tagging them. 

Ask yourself before tagging if:

The person would want to be tagged in this post?

Is the post directly connected to the person/business you are planning to tag?
